As I and others have pointed out, one of the central tenets of wokeism is that capitalism is evil. I’m not here to defend capitalism, or any other “ism,” but I think San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston is out of his mind when he blames homelessness, drug use and all of San Francisco’s myriad problems on capitalism.

I thought it might be nice for our newer members to know something about the founding of the Coalition for a Better Oakland. It’s kind of a slow news day anyway, so this is a good time to do it.

Brenda Grisham has announced the Recall now is seeking at least 225,000 signatures, in order to guarantee the 73,000 legally required to recall Price. This is because Price is throwing every obstacle she can to stop the Recall. I don’t know if the Alameda County Registrar of Voters is actually allied with Price, but we can’t discount the possibility, nor can we ignore the fact that Price is a vengeful but clever lawyer, with a strong motivation to kill the Recall. She knows how to use the courts, so we have to take very seriously the threat of her derailing our train.

Two recent incidents that both garnered worldwide coverage have made me rethink my conclusions about wokeism.

My comments today are inspired by a letter to the editor in yesterday’s San Francisco Chronicle. It was from Stephen Perlman, of San Mateo, whom I don’t know. So if you happen to read this, Stephen, thank you!
