The Coalition made a donation to Loren Taylor’s campaign yesterday. We did this because we believe Loren is the best candidate running for mayor. He’s not perfect, but Loren is by far the best of the crop, and he has shown a capacity for growth that leads me to believe he could be a great mayor.
The roots of homelessness go deep
A severe shortage of affordable housing. Blacks primarily impacted. Politicians, social scientists search franticly for solutions but find none. Middle class Whites flee Black neighborhoods. A description of present reality? Yes. But also the situation in America for the last seventy years, extending right up to the present day.

Using Black History Month for cheap political advantage
There’s nothing wrong, in principle, with Black History Month. After all, in America we have a gazillion other months dedicated to causes: National Bird-Feeding Month (February), Lyme Disease Awareness Month (May), LGBTQ Pride Month (June), National Pizza Month (October), and so on. It’s nice to cheer on these groups and causes and raise the public’s awareness of them.
