Election Day! But first, another police shooting

All the local media blasted the news about a police shooting in Berkeley on Sunday like it was a story of international import. KTVU led the pack, starting their 5 p.m. news with it, followed by ABC News, Berkeleyside, KRON 4 News, the S.F. Chronicle, the Mercury News, CBS News, the East Bay Times—is there anyone I’ve forgotten to list?

The gist of the story: the dude the cops shot was involved in a domestic fight early Sunday morning, and when the cops were called in, the guy “made threats to shoot officers and exited an apartment with a firearm.” The cops naturally defended themselves, and last I heard the guy was in the hospital.

Look, this sort of thing happens all the time. It’s not a big story. Some idiot hassles his girlfriend, and then points his weapon at the police. Ends up getting shot. That is not news, or, if it is, it should be a tiny little item on page 28, wedged in between the comics and the weather report.

But this is the Bay Area, where cops are perceived as bad guys and the local media see themselves as fearless reformers who must report on every evil deed every cop performs, in order to protect us, the public, from rogue officers. Well, I’m sick and tired of our local woke media treating each police shooting like it’s a presidential assassination attempt. It’s not. Chill, media. You have far more important things to report on than some scumbag getting shot.

TODAY’S ELECTION

If you haven’t already voted, I urge you to please vote for Loren Taylor for mayor. Lee is a total zero. Her entire campaign strategy is to claim that she’s the connected politician who’s backed by everyone and can get things done—that Taylor has no coalition or collaborative relationships in Oakland.

Let me destroy that claim. Yes, Lee has the support of most of the local politicians and unions. But that’s exactly her problem. The people who support her are the ones that got Oakland into trouble with their failed policies and woke ideology in the first place. Electing Lee would just be Dellums 2.0, Schaaf 2.0, Thao 2.0. More of the same. Oakland needs a clean sweep, to throw away yesterday’s trash and begin anew with a fresh, younger generation not blinded by ideological, race-based blinders. Please vote for Loren Taylor!
