I’m super-pleased that the Georgia Attorney-General has indicted those lunatic cop-haters down in Atlanta for their domestic terrorism. In case you haven’t been following the story, the Atlanta Police Department wants to build a big new training center on city-owned land. Needless to say, Atlanta “progressives” immediately opposed it. Dubbing it “Cop City,” they picketed, rioted, demonstrated and organized to kill the project. Along the way, they resorted to violent anarchism—like throwing Molotov cocktails at cops, destroying parts of the center as it was being constructed, and establishing a so-called “autonomous zone” on the site.
Now, 61 individuals have been indicted by Georgia AG Chris Carr on RICO charges—the same racketeering charges that Trump and his 18 co-conspirators are facing for their election interference in Georgia, and brought by the same Grand Jury.
I hope that Trump and his cronies are convicted, and I also hope that the woke rioters who tried to kill Cop City are convicted. What they did was unconscionable. Atlanta is a dangerous city, like Oakland, and needs more cops, and better-trained cops, like Oakland. It’s fine to oppose Cop City politically or philosophically, but not with violent, incendiary tactics. Anybody who resorts to that kind of stuff deserves a stiff prison sentence.
The right wingers are upset by this indictment. They ask, What about the Black Lives Matter protesters who destroyed so much property during their George Floyd uprisings? Virtually none of them ever got arrested for anything. We’ve had numerous violent riots in downtown Oakland, even before George Floyd’s death. The Occupy People created havoc with arson and mayhem and widespread destruction. Following them, the BLM freaks continued their attacks on our town. Yet, to my knowledge, no one ever got arraigned.
Why not? Which is what makes the Georgia AG’s action so admirable. Finally someone has had the chutzpah to arrest violent, criminal leftwingers.
I can’t imagine Pamela Price indicting anyone for any anti-cop behavior. As for her friend, Cat Brooks, she has consistently retweeted support for the Cop City criminals. She recently warned that the indictments “could be a template against protest infrastructure nationwide,” an absurd allegation. No one has been indicted for protest, and no one ever will be. What people have been indicted for are violent acts, and for conspiring with each other to commit them. She also posted a statement claiming that “these arrests would not happen in a free country” and that they are “a deliberate attempt to intimidate opponents” of Cop City. No, Ms. Brooks, another lie from you—the Donald Trump of Oakland progressives. These arrests would happen anywhere there are laws against anarchic violence that results in vast damage to public and private infrastructure and attacks against police officers.
So the Atlanta indictments are good news. Next time Brooks encourages downtown riots—and there will be a next time—we must insist that our District Attorney immediately indict those responsible. If Pamela Price is still the District Attorney, that won’t happen, which is all the more reason for getting rid of her ASAP.
P.S. Please try to attend the big “Rally for Solidarity and Solutions” this Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. It’s on Hillside St. between Ritchie and 80th Avenue. Guest speakers will include Loren Taylor, Derreck Johnson, Vincent Williams 3rd and Seneca Scott.
