Thanks to Angel Ruiz for bringing this to our attention. It’s a Twitter exchange between someone named “Tom” and Carroll Fife, the notorious City Council member from District 3.
Tom had asked Fife, “Can you list 3 things you’re doing to fix crime?” And Fife replied, quote: “Crime is removing men from their families & creating state-sponsored dependency; segregating neighborhoods & limiting access to living wage jobs; targeting communities w/ subprime mortgages & crashing a global economy; flooding defunded cities w/ drugs to fund a war in Nicaragua…”.
You might reasonably have expected Fife to define “Crime” as murder, carjacking, mugging, looting stores, burglary etc., but then, Fife is not a reasonable person and never has been. She’s basically an unreconstructed Communist, filled with racial grievances, harboring a deep, personal grudge for capitalism and our European heritage, which she views as racist. Had Fife been honest in response to Tom’s question to “list 3 things,” she would have written, “Nothing. I’m not doing a damned thing to fix crime. As a matter of fact, I enjoy reading about crime in Oakland. It’s lowering rents and driving White people out of town.”
But Fife isn’t honest. She can’t voice aloud her real agenda because even she knows it’s so violent and absurd that it would bring endless ridicule upon her head. She hints at that agenda, but never expresses it in plain English. At its center, the Fife agenda holds that people do not commit crimes; instead, it’s a capitalistic, racist system that commits crimes. The people we call “criminals” are simply the victims of this terrible system. If you want to know who looted Target, forcing it to close—if you want to know who murdered OPD Officer Tuan Le---if you want to know who was behind the attempted carjacking two days ago on International Boulevard, the answer is: The System. The actual, flesh-and-blood individuals who committed all these crimes were nothing but misunderstood victims of “subprime mortgages [and] a war in Nicaragua.”
Citizens of Oakland, this Fife is one of the most powerful persons in our city. She gets to determine some of the weightiest issues of our time: budgets, the size of the Police Department, Oakland’s economy, how the city responds to the crime epidemic. Even worse, she uses her bully pulpit to influence the way many Oaklanders think; for some odd reason, lots of people, especially younger ones, admire Fife and take seriously what she says. If you take just one minute to examine her claims you will see how out of touch with reality Fife is. Who is “flooding” our cities with drugs? Answer: the drug dealers who make money from the drug addicts. What is “state-sponsored dependency”? It’s not clear what Fife means, but welfare is certainly dependency on the state: would Fife like to end welfare? Or perhaps it’s the prisons she’s referring to. Well, the prisons would be empty if Fife’s constituents stopped committing crime. Regarding that “war in Nicaragua,” WTF is Fife talking about? There is no war in Nicaragua. There was in the 1980s; it ended long ago, but Fife misses her glory days as a Black Panther sympathizer bent on destroying American democracy and replacing it with a sinister, race-based dictatorship.
All I can conclude from this is that we have to get rid of Fife’s baleful influence on Oakland. We can do this, not through violence, but through the constitutional means of the Recall or when she’s up for re-election. We absolutely must purge Oakland government of the crazies who are bound and determined to destroy us and kill a once-great U.S. city.
