We’ve scheduled a Zoom meeting for all members this Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at 6 p.m. Here’s the link:

I hope as many as possible of our 228 members will attend. The purpose is to get to know each other. Depending on how many of you come, each of us will have a little time to give our name and neighborhood and a few brief remarks. I hope we’ll have enough time for everyone to say what he or she thinks the Coalition should be doing, or doing better.
We’ll have time constraints. Our time limit on Zoom is 30 minutes; we’ll schedule two back-to-back, giving us an hour. Zoom tends to shut us off rather ungracefully when 30 minutes have elapsed, so a heads up: If that happens, be prepared to re-log in: Do not leave! Our CFO, Todd, is in charge of the technical details, and he’ll get us back up as fast as he can.
This will be a good opportunity for us to learn more about each other. Believe it or not, even I have met, in person, only about a dozen of you. Because of the pandemic, we’ve refrained from holding in-person meetings. I’d like for all of us to be able to physically gather someplace, but that doesn’t seem possible for the time being. On the other hand, that brings me to the second announcement: A Rally.
Our friend Seneca Scott, at Neighbors Together Oakland (NTO), has organized a rally. It will be held at Frank Ogawa Plaza, just outside City Hall, on Friday, Nov. 12, at noon. (I checked the weather forecast: it will be a nice day, partly cloudy but mild and dry.) As you may know, NTO is the group that has sued the City of Oakland for failure to implement its Encampment Management Policy. The Coalition for a Better Oakland is 100% supportive of that lawsuit. The rally will include music and special guest speakers, of whom I may possibly be one. I hope you’ll come!
Save both dates!
