I have some very good friends, including here at the Coalition for a Better Oakland, who are prepared to endorse Warren Logan for City Council in District 3. It’s not because they particularly like him, but because he possesses the number one quality they demand in a candidate: his name isn’t Carroll Fife.
Don’t get me wrong. I want an end to Fife as much as anyone. With her racist mindset and hatred of the police, she’s a one-woman wrecking ball to true harmony and democratic solutions in Oakland. But to support a flawed candidate simply because he’s not as bad as she is? That’s something I can’t do.
Warren Logan is simply Fife Lite. We at least know where Fife stands on the issues: she’s been entirely consistent for four years. But Logan? Name me one thing you think he stands for. His campaign is nothing but rhetorical pablum and “I’m not Fife.” What is he promising voters? According to his latest campaign mailer, “Warren will deliver real results for Oakland by
- Ensuring everyone has a safe place to live and increasing affordable housing.
- Creating safe and sustainable transportation options.
- Building a thriving economy for all.
- Advocating for environmental justice and access to clean air.
- Bringing transparency to City Hall.”
Gee whiz, that all sounds pretty cool! The only promises he didn’t make were making sure everybody gets a pony for Christmas, and guaranteeing everyone wins the lottery.
In other words, meaningless, patronizing promises. Less than useless: stupid and dangerous. In resorting to such empty rhetoric, Logan is simply telling us he has no plans at all, except to continue Fife’s silliness of “racial justice” and “equity” which means the ongoing destruction of Oakland.
How exactly will Warren ensure that everyone has a safe place to live? He can’t. He knows he can’t and won’t. He simply lies, in order to impress stupid voters. “Hey, housing for everyone? Sounds good! Count me in.”
How exactly will Warren “create sustainable transportation options”? Will he pay BART’s $300 million structural deficit? Will he increase AC Transit’s budget by $150 million? Of course not. It’s just another ridiculous, pandering lie.
How will Warren “build a thriving economy for all”? Suddenly, everyone will be making $300,000 a year! Woo hoo!
How will Warren guarantee “environmental justice”? What does that even mean? It doesn’t mean anything. But it sounds good, and stupid voters will think, “Hey, I’m in favor of that.”
How will Warren bring “transparency to City Hall”? Will he eliminate closed-session City Council and Police Commission meetings? Will he tell us how much money each City Council member takes from unions, and what they promise in return? Will he reveal the secret deals council members make with each other? Of course not. This is just another cynical campaign ploy that Warren has no interest in pursuing, or ability to do so.
The only transparency Warren is providing is the extent of his hypocrisy and ambition, which are in full, flagrant plumage. What Warren Logan is not telling us is about his continued devotion to the discredited, racist Black Panther ideology that voters hate. This is why the Black Panther leader, Elaine Brown, whose anti-prison ideology inspired Pamela Price, has endorsed him. Another supporter is Misty Cross, founder of the Real Moms of Magnolia Street, who was associated with Fife’s illegal takeover of that house on Magnolia Street that Fife squatted in. In other words, Warren is from the same insane cabal of social justice warriors that got Oakland into so much trouble.
Warren is running against Fife because he knows she’s a weak candidate. He’s doing everything he can to obfuscate his connections to the woke, racist far left, but his ideology is no different from hers. There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the two. I simply can’t relate to the idea that anyone is better than Fife, even a second-rate race monger. If I were younger and better funded, I’d run for the D3 seat, and I’d win. Whoever actually wins, Logan or Fife, we’re in for more of the same for the foreseeable future: racially divisive politics, a continued disintegration of societal norms, and sheer, vacuous incompetence. When it comes to D3, I’m voting for none of the above.
