Pretext stops: the left hates them

Naturally, the left is against “pretext stops.” A high-level OPD officer defines pretext stops as a term “mainly [used] by the anti-police groups suggesting that cops stop folks for a low level ‘minor’ reason as a ruse to stop someone who[m] police are investigating for something else.” In addition to no license plate, these reasons can include expired registration tags, a driver blowing through a stop sign, or a car with broken tail lights.

As the left scrambles to save itself, voters are increasingly pro-cop and anti-crime

You can think of the current political struggle in Oakland, and across the country, as a Chess game with three pieces in contention: the radical progressive left, the moderate centrist-left, and a rightwing bloc. As the left and right struggle for power, pressure on the moderate-centrists increases; both left and right are anxious to poach off as many moderates as they can.

Recall update – first signature event is this Sunday

I chatted with Carl Chan yesterday, and here’s what he told me.

• There are already some paid signature gatherers out there. But mainly, we’re going to have to depend on volunteers, possibly to knock on doors.

• Carl said one gatherer, who was working in Alameda, got 90 signatures in one hour!

• About 1,900 volunteers already have signed up through the Recall website, recallpamelaprice.org.

• Carl understands he has a huge management and educational task. He’s working on a sort of tutorial covering all the how-to’s. I’ll share this as soon as he lets me know.

• Carl just published this on the website: Our first signature gathering event will be on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. We will have volunteers and families to gather signatures at:  Christopher LaVell Jones Foundation Resource Office, 1711 International Blvd Suite 103, Oakland, CA 94606

We can do this, my friends. It’s going to be hard work. I’ll share every bit of information I can, as Carl lets me know. Forward to victory!
